Why dis? Wha dis?

I want a *newsletter because I’m riding a book. I’m also writing it and while it’s workin’ my very soul, I want to offer some sacred likkle aspects of this soulwork out loud. So I'm putting on my bravest purple lipstick and talking to you to say that if you really really connected with, like if you super fuckwit Raising Free People Book, you might just be ripe for this newsletter.

I am feeling like RFP Book was the starter, the appetizer, for the book that I'm in partnership with now. The title is Black Bear | Wild Weed and it is (meant to be) a parenting book. It's also about culture, coming of age, and the gazes we face along the way. Perhaps most importantly, this book that’s coming through is a study and a guide for doing a particular type of personal archiving of versions of ourselves. It holds the more vast, more textured aspects of much of what I brought up in RFP Book, so in a way, that book gave context to the stories and essays in Black Bear | Wild Weed.

This newsletter exists so that I can slow-walk through this entire process, in part by writing out loud to share while I’m discovering di tings dem, and they are discovering me. You’ll see stories, essays, poems, and sketches, all in service of this savor complex I have invoked. Black Bear | Wild Weed is now in that Ready to Come Through stage when the book transforms from an idea you’re working to a thing you ride and roll with, not just something to write down. It has turned me into a savorist, and I’mma tell you what I mean by that in an upcoming post.

If you feel me, use the link below to subscribe, and I'll send you stuff, probably weekly. I also have a video that speaks to my current What A Gwaan status:

Bless up.

Akilah (but over here I’m) River Safiah | Savorist

*At the start of this year (2022) I closed my newsletter. Now, here I am at the end of the year with a newsletter again! This time because I want one, not because I felt like I needed to have one for some kind of creepy sales funnel thingie.
